Setting Interior Design Trends

The best thing about interior design and architecture is that trends and styles are always changing. Just like fashion culture styles are forever evolving year after year. At the forefront of interior design trends are the designers. Designers dream up new ideas for innovative house plan features, colors, textures and materials that break through the envelope of traditional design and create new trends. Susan Spath gives her expert incite on interior design trends you will see going into the new year.

House Plan Features

Susan has designed, built, and remodeled many houses for clients, herself, and to flip. Each house design is unique based on client’s style and lot location. With each house outdoing the next Susan is continuously raising the bar for luxury home design. Susan always includes must-have home design features such as a bold statement powder room and a covered outdoor sitting area for entertaining guests. In addition to outdoor entertaining spaces, Susan plans on designing more stunning master closets with detailed features. Traditional walk-in closets are functional but not pretty. Closets are getting bigger and encompassing more detail than ever. Susan adds storage islands with drawers for jewelry that are beautifully lit. LED lighting illuminates items on shelves making shoes and handbags look like they are on display rather than stored. Susan also plans on designing new outdoor fire pits for warm outdoor conversation and hanging out. Pictured above is a modern but comfortable outdoor firepit with black ceramic balls.

Colors

Susan LOVES orange! Warm colors promote the feeling of comfort. Mixing with lighter neutral whites makes the orange and pink stand out. Colors have a large impact on your feelings and mindset. Susan is imperative that your home should be a soothing and tranquil space. This living room is so happy, bright, and spacious thanks to Susan’s amazing color choices. You’ll be sure to see a lot more bright and colorful designs in 2023.

Interior and Architectural Style Trends

Traditional design is overly detailed while modern design too simple. Don’t limit yourself to one style; transitional style is a perfect mix of both. Take the best qualities of each style to make your own eclectic transitional design style. This master bedroom is a perfect modern take on transitional design. Modern styles can become too bare bones and start to feel commercial. This bedroom design mixes in some traditional design elements to make the room feel more warm comfortable.

Materials

This open family room design uses some of Susan’s favorite materials. The light in color wide plank wood floor gives this house a subtle foundation. Standing out from the floor are marble slabs making up a beautiful fireplace design. There are so many different colors and veining patterns of marble making it a versatile material. Large scale vintage wood beams built into high ceilings create an impressive space. Fabric material changes constantly as designs evolve. The furniture in this family room features Susan’s latest favorites. Susan utilized a variety of shearling boucle fabrics to complete this look. Accompanied by a 100% wool rug these materials all come together to make a super comfortable and stylish family room.
