Coastal Del Mar Estate Gets Contemporary Design – Ocean Home

COASTAL DEL MAR ESTATE GETS CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

Susan Spath Interior Design brings to life the essence of California luxury lifestyle by combining contemporary and coastal interior design elements.

This stunning estate—a second home for the family—located in old Del Mar, CA, brings to life the essence of California luxury lifestyle by combining contemporary and coastal interior design and home decor elements. The house features gorgeous ocean views and is walking distance to dining, shopping, and beaches. This was a complete remodel updated from the old world to the new featuring a more clean, modern, and fresh style.

The homeowners include a successful entrepreneur of a software company and his wife. The couple have a son and daughter who are both in their 20s now. They have three other homes in San Diego and another in Seattle—all of which they hired Susan Spath Interior Design for.

The family originally bought the home in Del Mar because they fell in love with the location and views, but the house was a super dark, old style-Spanish Tuscan. It was far too heavy and dark for their taste and decided it required a full renovation.

The homeowners were both easy going throughout the renovation—they wanted the process to be easy and stress-free; she definitely had input on all of the design decisions, while he just wanted comfort and ease. When they came into the showroom to look at selections, they rarely changed anything at all.

It was important to the homeowners that they have an open floor plan on the main floor to enjoy the beautiful views with family and friends. They also needed a home office space.

Project highlights include the backlit wall behind the full-bar complete with a wine fridge with glass shelving to complement the game room; a redesigned high-tech theater; a reclaimed fireplace surround; the finest of indoor/outdoor living with pool, pizza oven and entertaining areas; motorized drapery throughout the home; fully-custom Habersham cabinetry; custom window treatments; wooden floors from Exquisite Surfaces in a beautiful smooth driftwood; an variety of fine art; Ralph Lauren lighting throughout the home; and bespoke kitchen tile designs.
